2025 FM Simplex Contest Results
This year’s contest was held on February 23, 2025. The weather was great, with temperatures in the mid-30s. Despite the good weather, we didn’t have any rover stations enter the contest this year. Joe N9UX did well with his HT in his mobile in Waukesha.
With four club entries, the MSOE radio club again came out in force. They activated the roof of the Gohmann Museum and the MSOE club station again. Ethan W9ETH from his QTH led the way for MSOE and constantly had one of the top contacts per band.
Ethan W9ETH from his QTH.
Contest activity was down this year compared to the last few years. Last year we had 21 log entries and this year we only had 14. This was the second year we offered online log and scoring submittal, which immensely helped with the scoring.
I am looking forward to next year’s contest. We are looking for additional volunteers for the contest committee. I want to thank everyone who participated this year.

Soapbox comments
WA9PWP – Hello from Dane County!
KE9AKI – Fun contest, glad I could participate!
AA9RK – It’s great to see so much activity on the bands. It was nice to chat with everyone, too.
W9RH (KA9WXN OP): I wasn’t feeling well, so I ran the contest from home. I need to work on my station at home to improve it.
N9UX – Operated from Hillcrest Park in Waukesha, with mag-mount mobile antennas.
W9ETH – First time doing a contest in the W9ETH QTH shack. Did much better on 6m this year with the new HF antenna. Worked half of West Allis on C4FM with the FT2D!
KE9CMW – First contest I operated under my callsign! Had a blast figuring things out and calling everyone I did.
W9POG – W9HHX had a blast operating this contest again! We had two of our newest operators participate in this contest, with a total of five club participants. Car troubles took one of our planned stations down, but that didn’t stop us from getting on the air and doing our best.
KE9BTU – SOAPBOX: One of my firsts contests under my own call sign. Suffered through a lot of sketchy equipment set up, but overall had fun.
WB9BWP – Tried dstar (not used since last year’s contest) but radio must have been configured wrong!
